Yes. We're Smateria's official and exclusive distributor for Australia and New Zealand. Every bag on this site comes from Smateria's own workshop in Cambodia, the same workshop that makes the bags you'll find in their stores there.

Good eye. If you've shopped in Siem Reap or at the airport, you'll have noticed. Every bag is made in the same Smateria workshop, by the same team. The difference is the journey. Our price covers shipping the bags to Australia, GST, storing them here, running a local business, and free shipping to you anywhere in Australia.

What you get in return: no waiting for your next trip to Cambodia, fast delivery from local stock, 30-day returns, and a real person to talk to if anything isn't right. New Zealand orders over $150 ship free too.

Every style is designed and pattern-made in-house by Smateria, then made by skilled artisans in Smateria's own workshop in Cambodia. Every piece is cut, sewn and finished by hand. The team is paid fair wages for every piece they make, receives a 13th-month salary and has on-site childcare at the workshop. Smateria is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (Guaranteed Fair Trade).

NET collection: tough industrial nylon net, repurposed as our signature material. Every piece is cut by hand, then layered with different materials to get its exact shade and texture.

IKI collection: plastic waste and industrial fabric leftovers, collected from garment factories before they reach a dump. In Smateria's own workshop they're layered and built up, using a technique refined over many years, into an entirely new fabric.

Yes. Smateria no longer uses leather, and the range is PETA-Approved Vegan.

Straight from the care label: hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, dry in the shade, and don't iron. That's it. No special products, no dry cleaner.

Years. Some of our customers are still carrying pieces they bought ten years ago, and they'll happily tell you so in our reviews.

Australia: standard shipping is free on every order and takes 3 to 7 business days. Need it sooner? Express is available at checkout and takes 1 to 3 business days. Everything ships from our stock here in Australia.

New Zealand: free on orders over $150 NZD. Under that, a flat rate is shown at checkout. Standard delivery to New Zealand takes 4 to 8 business days.

You have 30 days from delivery to request a return. Items need to be unused, with tags, in their original packaging. Email hello@smateria.com.au first and we'll send you a return label and instructions. Return shipping is paid by the customer. If anything arrives damaged or it's the wrong item, let us know straight away and we'll make it right.
